Book meme

. So, you can read! Congrats!
Are you reading a book right now? How far are you into it and what do you think so far? If you're not, what was the last book you read and how did you feel about it?
((I’m not reading anything right now, though 1984 is next, I’ve kind of been putting it off. The last book I read was Louis L’Amor’s Last of the Breed which was Blah, not great, not terrible, not boring, not exciting))

. Do you have a favorite book? Do you have... a book you really liked, at least?
((My favorite book is Hexwood by Diana Wynne Jones, but there are a lot of books that I really like))

. What would you say is your favorite genre to read? What to tend to steer away from?
((I read mostly fantasy and I like really odd fiction (like Life of Pi or I am the Messenger.) I avoid Romance (books with romance in them are fine, pure romance no thanks,) “space” sci-fi, mystery, and historical fiction generally)

. Do you read more fiction or non-fiction/information books?
((fiction))

. How about a favorite author, or perhaps a few?
((Diana Wynne Jones. I also like Joan Bauer, Han Nolan, Mercedes Lackey, Diane Duane, and Neil Gaiman))

. Have you read any terrible books? Something you'd recommend staying away from?
((The Little White Horse was pretty bad, I didn’t care for Maximum Ride very much, and some of the Battle of the Books books over the years have been bad such as Longitude))

. Do you reread books, or is once enough? Any exceptions so far?
((I love to reread books, if I had time I’d reread a lot of my books but I keep getting more new ones))

. What were some of your favorite books as a child?
((Harry Potter, some of the Magic tree house books, Frindle, My side of the Mountain, the Van Gogh Café, uh my memory is kind of foggy))

. Do you like poetry as well as prose? Got a favorite poet or poem?
((No))

. Do you usually pick books from the kids, teen, young adult, or adult books? How old are you, if you don't mind?
((Mostly young adult/teen and adult, though there are a number of series that I read that are in the kids section))

. Do you buy books much or mostly just borrow?
((Buy, I love owning my books))

. Have you read any books after seeing them in movie form? Which did you enjoy more?
((No))

. What about reading the book before there was a movie? How did you feel about the movie? Did you even bother seeing it?
((Harry Potter, meh; Lord of the Rings, good; Holes, great; The Thief Lord (yes there is a movie), great, um . . . I didn’t watch the Golden Compass, Eragon, or Twilight, I refuse to))

. Do you read any other forms of literature aside from novels? Such as graphic novels, comics, (fan fiction???) etc.?
((Graphic novels, some comics, I read a few fan-fics mostly Fire Emblem))

. What is a book you want to read, but haven't yet? What intrigues you about it?
((All the 50+ books in my to-read stack, the nexts in series whether they are out or not))

. If you could rewrite the end of one book (or any other part, I suppose), which would you choose? If you were satisfied with every book you read's end, yay.
((There is just one little sentence in I am the Messenger that I’d love to change (you don’t have to tell people to beat their wives, it happens any ways, and if the guy didn’t without being told you didn’t need to risk killing him) I suppose there are other book that I just can’t think of off the top of my head))

If you can think of one, name a book that made you:
- cry: ((There are only two books that I can think of that actually made me cry, one was the kids books Cages about a dog at the pound, and the other was The Book of Lost Things the end to that was just so sad. Sad books (as well as thought provoking ones) usually just make me go rather catatonic))

- laugh: ((Lots of books, though the 5th Ranger’s Apprentice made me laugh so hard))

- think, in a deeper sense than the obvious: ((think how? Like reflect on the human condition or like figuring out a puzzle? The latter Hexwood and A Song of Ice and Fire, the former um, um, maybe The Sight by Daivd Clement-Davis or some of the classics that we read in AP?))

- feel pure happiness: ((Pure happiness oh that’s a hard one, hum, the Twelve kingdoms books maybe))

- become so addicted you put off everything in order to finish it: ((Lots of books))

- die of boredom: ((Those usually go in the giveaway pile, um Longitude was one))

- learn something new: ((I'm sure the majority of books did but there isn't one that I can think of specifically))

- squirm with squickiness: ((That one scene in Magic’s Price is something I could have done with out but I wouldn’t say it’s that bad but I can’t think of anything else))

- squirm with glee: ((Uh . . . a lot there is a part or two in a lot of my favorite books that make me squirm with glee))

- very embarrassed to be reading it: ((I can’t actually think of any books, though there was one Manga . . .))

- angry: (( I can’t actually think of any though I know there must be some))

A piece of writing you might find interesting is: How to Mark a book, by Mortine Alder. I'm reading it in The Thoughtful Reader. And it's very interesting, it basically says the opposite of how writing in a book is defiling it, I think you'd enjoy it.

If you just googled the Marking a book thing, it comes up with the result. It's just a article. But it was really interesting.

Read it yet?

Tell me when you do. It's pretty short and to-the-point. It only took me half a hour to a hour.
